Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow's roots trace back to Cairns, Queensland, where he was born to a heritage-rich family—his mother of Indigenous Australian Torres Strait Islander descent and his father of Samoan origin. His athletic journey began with the Cairns Kangaroos in junior rugby league, displaying a talent that crossed codes to Australian rules football. He shone as a standout player for AFL Cape York's Crusaders and as a representative for Peninsula teams, even earning top honors at the 2013 Queensland state underage championships. His prowess on the field was further highlighted by a star performance in an under-15s AFL grand final at Cazalys Stadium in 2016, which led to his recruitment into the Gold Coast Suns Academy. Despite efforts to move him to the Gold Coast, Tabuai-Fidow remained connected to his roots, continuing with the Suns’ academy in Cairns. His athletic scholarship at Brisbane Grammar School marked his foray into rugby union, and he later joined the Queensland Reds rugby union development squad. Eventually, his sporting path led him to rugby league with the North Queensland Cowboys in 2017, and he completed his education at Kirwan State High School in Townsville, solidifying his reputation as a versatile and promising athlete.
